Games are evolving rapidly and becoming ever more realistic with games like L.A Noire and we’ll soon start the beginning of a new console cycle. Before games had a heavy emphasis on graphical capability they were all about fun and random craziness that would keep players coming back for more.
This list covers the most bizarre and obscure weapons in video games. To keep things fair only one weapon per franchise can be chosen and weapons in games that are released as of the time of writing.
10 ) ANAL PROBE GUN – Destroy All Humans Path of the Furon
The second game in the Destroy All Humans series features a twist on a fabled alien object. The Anal Probe Gun features a target lock on humans and can fire multiple probes at a time.
Imagine a machine gun, except each bullet is an anal probe and seeks out anuses like a heat seeking missile. Why? Because they’re aliens, that’s why.
9 ) FLATULENCE – Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
The bizarre weapon in Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse is the butt of many jokes and is used as a propellant in other games. In this game it’s used as a harmful gaseous attack on all the mortal humans.
The protagonist, Stubbs, lets a green, atomic, fart rip whenever he desires which causes a knockback effect and some damage on the surrounding enemies. What makes this weapon bizarre is the fact that Stubbs is a zombie and the living dead don’t have an active gastric system for farts to be made in.
8 ) A CAR (AS BOXING GLOVES) – The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction
Hulk (or the Incredible Hulk as he’s sometimes known) is basically a huge green powerhouse built up of muscle, strength and rage. Hulk is one of the only mainstream marvel heroes that doesn’t need any weapons to fight, but in 2005, Radical Entertainment thought he did.
On top of Hulk’s move roster, he also had the ability to punch his fists into a car and rip it apart to make some oversized metal boxing gloves. In the game this move was called steel fists. Extremely unnecessary and bizarre, considering Hulk smashes them to bits in a few punches.
7 ) HOLY MACKEREL – Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is a stylised game with a few odd weapons, but the one that stands out the most is the Holy Mackerel, which is exclusive to the scout class.
The scout in Team Fortress 2 is the super-fast, double jumping, nimble class with a powerful shotgun who can skip circles around you. So what did Valve decide to do? Add a humiliating mildy-powerful melee weapon. Thanks Valve.
For those of you unfamiliar with marine wildlife or pictures, a mackerel is a type of fish, which in this case is used bizarrely as a melee weapon to humiliate your enemies.
6 ) FOAM FINGER GUN – Dead Space 2
Dead Space 2 is a sci-fi horror shooter with a gripping storyline and an underlying tone of mental anguish and borderline schizophrenia but, as serious as it seems, there’s a bizarre bonus weapon if you beat the game on Hardcore Difficulty.
The Foam Finger Gun is bizarre because it doesn’t really fire anything. Isaac just says ‘bang’ and ‘pew pew’, but despite this it’s the most powerful weapon in the game and comes with unlimited ammo. It does seem like a worthy reward for the monstrous task of completing the game on Hardcore.
