Gamescom 2012 awards

Winner – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Of all the Sony exclusive games at Gamescom this year, the title many call a Super Smash Bros. clone tops our list because it’s much more than just that. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale looks similar to Nintendo’s brawler but plays completely differently. Every character has their own move set unique to their abilities in their respective games, plus level one, two, and three super moves you can build up to give you an advantage.

The real reason it won this award was because of how much fun it was to play. The controls are easy to get the hang of and are really responsive. The game looks superb, even cross-playing with the PS3 and Vita, and both versions ran seamlessly with no lag. Playing with three other players across dynamic, unique cross-franchise environments with Sony and third party characters is a blast, and the ease of online play within or across consoles will make this a title gamers will be playing for a long time. The announcement of cross-buy for this game only gives us more of an incentive to make it a must-buy.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale screenshotPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is definitely a game Sony console owners will not regret buying, while the ease of making/joining lobbies, accessibility of controls, character roster, and endless entertainment will make this a go-to game for most. It’ll be the game you play online with friends, the game you’ll play when your friends are at your house, the game you’ll practice by yourself with, and the game that will keep a smile on your face.

Runner-up – Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation
