The Wii U launched this past Sunday, and Nintendo of America’s president, Mr Reggie Fils-Aime really wants to see Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto epic on the console.
“The folks there have said very nice public comments about the Wii U…” “In the end, it is Nintendo’s responsibility to have a large installed base, to have development tools that help the developers and publishers create great content, and essentially create an environment where teams like Rockstar can bring their very best content to our platform, and if we do that hopefully the very best content throughout the entire industry will show up on Wii U.” (Reggie tells MTV)
Having a Grand Theft Auto on a Nintendo console wouldn’t be a first (GTA and GTA II) were both ported to the Game Boy Color, but the series has never actually made it to a Nintendo home console! Let’s face it, having a GTA on a Nintendo home console, all gimmicks included or aside, would be pretty monumental. Let’s hope Rockstar considers this; and it looks like the likelihood of seeing Grand Theft Auto V on the Wii U is going to be a result of its install base…
“Everything else is up for consideration. That’s all I can give you,” he told IGN. “The main thing is we are not…we are a third-party publisher. We’re not Nintendo, we’re not Sony, we’re not Microsoft.” “But we can do what we want wherever there’s the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market.” “Wherever it might be. I think that’s the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don’t make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.” (Dan Houser of Rockstar to IGN)
Grand Theft Auto V is currently set for a Spring 2013 release, so the likelihood of it being for Wii U at launch is rather slim, same goes for PC, but it’s way too far out to deny either of being ported one day. Especially the PC; all other numbered titles have made their way there in the past, why wouldn’t this one?
