From Metal Gear Solid (o Second Sight to Prototype) to Knack, this three-minute trailer touts the (just about) 19 years of existence for the PlayStation console. To highlight “The Evolution of PlayStation” for the upcoming PlayStation 4, Sony commissioned a trailer recounting the days of polygonal gameplay up to now. Surprisingly, this jab at nostalgia works quite effectively with well-edited shots of a specific action seamlessly placed toward another game. Each highly valued PlayStation series seizes about a few seconds to show off their transitions between consoles and sequels in succinct fashion.

Sure, the watershed trailer may harken back the point of graphical half-step next generation holds, but boy, does it put a smile on your face.

The PlayStation 4 “evolves” this Fall for $399.
