What the what? Double Fine absolutely ambushed the gaming world this morning by launching their Amnesia Fortnight 2012 game, Spacebase DF-9, over on Steam for early access! In what’s being called a mash-up of a space sim and indie favorite Dwarf Fortress, Double Fine announced Spacebase DF-9!  Really not much to say other than you can presume that it’s going to be chock full of the charm of a usual Double Fine title.

Although of surprise is the slowly growing price of “early access” to games that aren’t done yet. Spacebase DF-9 early access is set for $24.99? A bit steep for “early access” and if you check out the angry comments on the Rock Paper Shotgun video (embedded here) and just as many thumbs down as there are thumbs up, people aren’t exactly thrilled with the fact that Double Fine keeps asking for large amounts of money through things like Humble Indie Bundle, Indie Fund, etc.

Regardless of your thoughts, the game is now out there on Steam. You be the judge!
